Emilia Gomez Rivero-Merlin

Thank you for revisiting my grandfather, Merlin. My grandfather had one child, my mother and two grand-daughters. We have been living in the United States for many years but I still remember running around that huge yard and his studio, I left when I was 8 years old but have never forgotten the great influence he had on me. It's very emotional for me to see this but also so very gratifying, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for following up and remembering him, honoring his legacy. He was not only a great artist but a great man.

Pierre Bayle

Dear Emilia, it was very emotional for me to rediscover this place where I first met the artist, your grandfather. The trees have grown bigger, some statues have disappeared, others have remained, some frescoes and mosaics have been taken away, but I could still feel the same atmosphere of quietness and the rare light of a shadowy and fresh garden. I regret that Museo de Bellas Artes in Havana haven't more of his paintings, nor even a picture of him, but his memory is however vivid in the catalogues. Warmest feelings. Pierre
